International exhibition “THE METAMORPHOSES OF PEARLS IN CONTEMPORARY AND CONCEPTUAL JEWELLERY”
October 19 - November 13
From October 19, 2018 until November 13, 2018 Art gallery Putti presents international exhibition
“THE METAMORPHOSES OF PEARLS IN CONTEMPORARY AND CONCEPTUAL JEWELLERY”
A PEARL – a jewel considered to be a gemstone, which due to its mild glow is compared with moonlight and is considered to be and indication of femininity, moreover, its sphere shape is perceived as an indication of perfection.
The exhibition will feature jewellery artists from all over the world, as well as painters from Latvia. The unifying element of all exhibitors is PEARL.
As a result of the aesthetic creativity of artists, a PEARL acquires a modern form based on the individual experience and material selection of each artist. The selection of diverse and unusual materials creates a game that highlights the classical and unmistakable matter of a PEARL and allows it to be reflected in today’s light.
“In the past, I only associated pearls with older ladies and snobs. They reminded me of boredom and senile sensation. But in the years of study, when I began to work with the matter, I realized that they quickly lose their dusty vapor when combined with other materials. In conceptual jewellery pearls come alive since they are used in an unconventional manner” says jewellery artist Carolin Denter from Germany.
Italian jewellery master Gigi Mariani, in turn, offers the creation process of a pearl to be used as a metaphor for everyday life, not to be afraid of the new and strange, but to accept it and to create one’s own gemstone. “An oyster to protect itself from a foreign body creates a pearl! The pearl is a wound healer. Figuratively speaking, it is waste that becomes something valuable and expensive.”
By sweeping off aristocratic dust, pearls are reborn in modern, sophisticated and interesting contemporary and conceptual designs!
